Mandatory Certification

State Mandated Courses for Condominium Association Board Members

Directors elected or appointed to a condominium board must complete a four-hour certification course within 90 days of taking office. The course covers milestone inspections, structural integrity reserve studies, elections, recordkeeping, financial literacy and transparency, levying fines, and notice and meeting requirements.

The certification remains valid for seven years and does not need to be retaken during that period as long as the director serves continuously. Directors serving beyond seven years must retake the certification upon expiration of the seven-year period.

Within one year of completing the certification, and annually thereafter, directors must complete a one-hour continuing education course covering changes made during the preceding year to Chapter 718, Florida Statutes, and related administrative rules.
